MAHUKONA — The search for missing fisherman Charles Locklar continued Tuesday, but to no avail.
Locklar, 26, disappeared late Saturday afternoon after a small boat on which he was fishing with his uncle, Jesse Sparks, capsized a half mile off the shore of Lapakahi State Park.
The two began swimming to land. Sparks eventually made it. All signs indicate Locklar did not.
“After our efforts (Tuesday), we still haven’t found any signs of the missing party,” said Hawaii Fire Department Battalion Chief Darwin Okinaka.
HFD crews continued to comb the shoreline Tuesday while a departmental boat surveyed nearshore waters. The United States Coast Guard patrolled deeper waters, including the Alenuihaha Channel between Hawaii Island and Maui.
The standard search and rescue protocol calls for a three-day search unless something significant is found. Tuesday marked three days since Locklar went missing.
